Who does not like toy model trains? The hobbies of trains started a very long time ago and to this day are still a very popular past time. Many people will buy and trade them, getting the thrill of a new one to add to their collection. New comers will learn how the old railroads were run.

1. Shortly after the trains were widely used for a mode of transportation, toy model trains hit the market. They were specially made for little boys to play with. They were usually made of wood and didn’t have a lot of markings on them. As time went on, adults got on the train for having toy model trains, they seemed to have captured their eye.

2. In the Victorian era, there were a lot of different social clubs, some very high society, some not so much. But the men; women were never allowed in these clubs; we gather to talk about what train sets they had or maybe even be lucky enough to buy another car or and engine. They were extremely expensive to own, so the commoner could not afford them.

3. The G scale of trains mostly was used in the garden. Gross is a German word meaning large or big. Many people use them outside in the garden or some can be found in parks; one can ride around the park, enjoying the scenery from trees to plants.

4. Before World War one, many of the toy model trains were made in Germany. Then the enemy was Germany and no American would buy a train made in Germany. Some say this is how Lionel trains came to be one of the biggest powerhouses of model trains. And it still holds that tile. The older the Lionel train, the harder it is to find and afford.

5. The materials used to make train tracks have changed through the year. The older ones were made of brass. Now days; they are made of either stainless steel or aluminum. Some tracks are even made of plastic but those you will find for small children to play with.

6. Many train enthusiasts like the weathering layouts. This gives the layout of the whole train tracks, and scenery an aged look, like it has been in storm after storm. Adding a bit of stain on the train or even the land just adds a bit of depth.

7. The N scale is cheaper than some other trains. It is scaled down it uses less materials to make them.

8. Many changes have occurred through the years for toy model trains. Now you can run two or more around different tracks.

9. Some people even have trains they can ride in their back yards. What a great idea especially for a small child’s birthday party.

10. There also train clubs for any age. Check them out they could be a lot of fun. Trains are so enjoyable to watch.
