Model trains come in many sizes. Some can reach lengths of up to two feet. Some are even smaller than your finger. But how do you know what the right size of model train you should get?

To start off, train sizes are measured in scale. Scale is the relative measurement of a model to the actual thing it is modeled after or its prototype. In model trains, a standard set of scales is used, each scale represented by a letter. The O scale train for example corresponds to a scale of 1:48, or an O scale model will be 1/48th the size of the actual train its prototype. That means every measurement of the prototype is divided by 48 to get the measurement of the model. If a real train is about 48 feet long (not a real example but you get the idea) the O scale model would be 1 foot long.

There are of course the big trains. G scale trains are one of the biggest. They have a scale of 1:22 (or 1:20 for most American G scale trains). O scale models are half the size of the G scale counterparts, having the numerical scale of 1:48. These models are two of the most popular of the large scale models and will probably be your first choice if you are looking for something big. However, they do come with certain considerations. Their size makes modeling for them rather expensive in terms of real estate. Since the locomotives are already big, everything else will also be big. Imagine building scenery for locomotives this big... you'd need something like a whole yard! In fact some G models have become known as garden models because they can only be used in garden sized tracks.

HO scales are in the middle. They are quite literally half the o scale at 1:87, hence their names. They are usually a good balance between size and functionality. This can also be a good start off point for you since they are one of the most popular scales. This popularity has led to many modeled prototypes in this scale. If you decide to go with HO, you'll have a lot of choices for your modeling needs. They still however require some investment in terms of space. At even at half the size of their larger brothers, these models can still eat up sizable chunks of your rooms.

Smaller scales are of course the friendliest in terms of real estate considerations. Arguably the most popular small scale model is the N scale. At 1:160, almost half the size of the HOs, these are extremely efficient models in terms of space. They are actually known to be even more detailed as far as realism is concerned, often modeling their prototypes more closely than the larger models. This is due to the fact that these scale models were introduced later, when the world of model railroading was becoming less of a children's activity to a more serious hobby.

Other scales do exist, although their popularity is not as great. The S scale for example is slightly smaller than the O scale but larger than the HO scale, at 1:64. There are even larger scale models, up to 1:12 which are almost as big as the train rides in parks. There are also extremely small ones like the Z scale, which reaches about 1:220, or the newer T scale, which reaches a mind boggling 1:450! At this size, you can hold an entire train set in just one hand!

At the end of the day though, you have to remember that there is no one true good scale. They're all good! People love them for different reasons and will continue to build them for their enjoyment. So whatever the scale you end up choosing, as long as you enjoy modeling them, they will always be right for you.

PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't figure out these hard math problems!!!!!!!!! Hurry! Please?

1. Two wooden cubes sit in a carpenter's shop. One is twice as tall as the other. If the small cube will take 1oz. of paint cover it completely, how much paint is needed to cover the larger cube?
2. Write expressions using variables for the area and perimeter of a rectangle with length 2w + 9 and width w?
3. What part of $1000 is a penny? Express your answer using exponets.
4. Sheila sketches the floor plan of a house which measure 40ft by 60ft at its greatest dimension. She makes her sketch on grid paper which is marked 30 units wide and 40 units long. What scale factor should she choose that would allow her to make the largest possible drawing?
5. Write a recursive formula for an = 2n.
6. (2x + 1)^2
7. (2x + 1)(2x - 1)

You didn't state the problem for 6 and 7.
3 makes no sense to me, unless it's a question about exponential notation, in which case the answer is 10^(-5) or 1/10^5.

The answer to 1 is 2^2 (why?). And you know what that is.

2 is very easy. Settle down and do it yourself.

5. Hint: What is a(n) - a(n-1)?

Australia is the home of two species of land hermit crab. The Strawberry lives on the islands and the coral cays in the area of the Great Barrier Reef. They are also found in Madagascar, Japan, and the Red Sea areas. It is not as well known as its cousin, the Australian, which lives on the mainland.

The Strawberry is named so for the red color of the adult, which has white markings. They are tiny creatures who are less than an inch long at maturity. They are scavengers of their area and feed on tortoise eggs, other crabs, and sea terns.

The coloring advances as they molt and grow. The very young are white with red antennae, and then they become orange or light red up until their adulthood when they receive the darker color.

The Australian resides in the Northern Territory and the northernmost sections of Queensland and Western Australia. They may also be found in Indonesia and other islands of the Pacific Ocean.

The Australian land hermit crab is a social fellow, and it travels in groups as large as 100. It is able to live out of the water, but still require contact with water every day. In the humid rain forests, they may live several miles from water because they can get moisture in other ways, but they have to live in areas with more than 60% humidity.

All hermit crabs are scavengers that will eat plants and animal remains. When they molt, they eat their own exoskeleton to build up calcium for their new outer skeleton. The Australian crab is larger than the Strawberry and grows to the average size of a tennis ball.

The Australian land crab originated in the sea and has a modified gill system that allows it to live on land, but it has to have contact with salt. The ones that live near water will immerse themselves each day to get the required salt. The ones deeper in the rain forests depend on salt spray for their salt intake.

There are several species of the hermit land crab. They are kept as pets in many places including the United States. Common varieties for pets are the two varieties from Australia, the Ecuadorian hermit crab, and the Caribbean hermit crab, which is known as the purple pincher.

Other varieties include Coenobita brevimanus, which is the most terrestrial of all the hermit crabs. Its home is Indonesia, and it is called erroneously by that name. This crab does not like water and should not be immersed in it. Other varieties that are growing popular are Coenobita rugosus, and Coenobita cavipes.

The land hermit crab is just another interesting creature from the crab family. It has most of the traits of other hermit crabs.
