How To Glue Model Train Track
Magnetism Advice, please?

I need advice to build a maglev train model w/ perm. magnets...
How should I align the magnets on the track?
I've tried sticking them together w/ alternating poles so it's a continuous strip.

And I've tried same poles (which repel..., so I was wondering whethere I should gorilla glue them to make them continous).

In theory, wouldn't the alternation, propel the train to move? O.o

I don't know why this simple model is not working!!!!

Well....neither orientation is going to get it for you.

You need to orient then up and down....like this:

n n n n n n n n n n
▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐
s s s s s s s s s s s

Each "▐ " is a bar magnet standing in its end...ok?

With the north "n" poles either up OR down...doesn't matter.

Then the surface of your train has to have the SAME pole facing whichever one you have point up from the track.

This 'repulsion is 'levitate' your train....as long as it's light enough. And then you will have to conjure up some fake way to propel it. A real lev-train uses electromagnets, as suggested by the other post, and they are sole responsible for the lift and the forward motion, and you won't be able to accomplish this with permanent magnets.

You're gonna need a lot of magnets...they all have to essentially be the same too, otherwise their strength may vary too much, and you will have to glue these all in place.
