geometry hwork help please!! the shade lampost prob?

shad is 3 ft. from a lamp post that is 12 ft. high. shad is 5.5 ft. tall. how long is shad's shadow?

We have similar triangles here.

We make a prorportion and solve for x.

Let x = the length of the shade's shadow.

12/5.5 = 3/x

We cross-multiply.

5.5 times 3 = 12 times x

16.5 = 12x

Divide each side by 12 to find x.

16.5/12 = x

1.375 = x

We can round this off to the nearest tenths and get
x = 1.4 feet as the length of the shade's shadow.
