Linda Carlino's Books Are A Big Hit In Portugal
The Portuguese publisher Editorial Presença (publisher of JK Rowling, Ian Rankin, Paul McCartney, Fay Weldon, Terry Pratchett, Alexander McCall Smith, …) published Linda Carlino's debut historical novel That Other Juana (Juana la Loca) in 2009 and it is selling very well in Portugal and other Portuguese speaking countries.
It has now bought the other two books of the Hapsburg Trilogy, A Matter of Pride (Charles V, HRE) and Wives & Other Women (Philip II of Spain,) – husband of Mary Tudor and notorious for the Armada - and will publish them both worldwide in Portuguese during 2010-11.
Hopefully the success in Portugal will lead to publication in other European countries.
All three books by Linda Carlino are available in English from:

Linda Carlino had a lifelong interest in history and historical fiction but it wasn't until a five week independent tour of Spain, a country of which she knew very little, in 1988, when she was struck by its many historical connections with England, that she decided to devote herself to travel, research and writing. During the following years as well as travelling extensively in Spain she learned Spanish and started reading its history and soon became fascinated with its XV and XVI centuries.
In recent years she concentrated her research and writing on the lives of the descendents of Ferdinand and Isabel: Queen Juana I (Juana la Loca), her son Charles V (Holy Roman Emperor), and her grandson Philip II of Spain.
She visited all the key sites in Spain pertaining to their lives, times and events and spent many months researching in its state and private libraries: the Biblioteca Nacional, the Ateneo of Madrid, the library of The Casino of Madrid, and many others.
Her three historical novels, A Hapsburg Trilogy, feature in-depth revelations of the characters and personalities of the protagonists; their strengths and weaknesses, their motives, their passions: the indomitable spirit and resilience of Juana; the fervent, if seriously misguided, convictions of Charles; Philip's iron will and callous execution of his duties.
