How will you vote on Proposition 1A in California?
Proposition 1A will lead to the US's first high speed rail (excluding Acela Express which is not really high speed) system connecting downtown San Francisco, San Jose, the Inland Empire, Los Angeles, and San Diego.
I am voting yes on the measure because I believe we need to invest in our infrastucture to make sure that CA is competitive globally in the future. Also, it results in a substantially decreased load on the environment (Co2 emissions).
The trains will be modeled off of similar rail projects in Asia and Europe. How will you vote on this measure and why?
I'll vote yes on both 1A and 10...reason? Reasons;
1, no matter what they cost, they'll only cost more in the future.
2, they'll create thousands of jobs
3, our infrastructure is crumbling faster than Caltrans can fix it
4, I grew up during the Eisenhower / Pat Brown era, when freeways were sprouting like mushrooms, with a Community College at almost every off-ramp. Those 50-year old roads and highways are t-i-r-e-d now.What cost maybe a million dollars a mile for 4 lanes is now probably 5 million a mile, and will only cost more to repair later.
5, by having improvements at both the airports and the rails, travelers will have a choice...and I bet they choose the rail for intrastate travel but planes AND trains for interstate travel, UNTIL hi-speed rail (for which California will be the model ...hopefully) connects the whole country. And again, it will create jobs. The projected revenue seems "a tad" high, though. We'll see.
