Audio codec switching.?
I have a 360 add-on for my HD-DVD player. I was wondering about the option to "force DTS". When "display" is pressed on the remote, you can choose between Dolby 2.0, DD, DTS, or WMA(?).
So what happens when the add-on turns a dolby track into a DTS track?
I have tried it out and had mixed results.
Wondering if someone had a definitive answer.
Yes I have a nice AVR. Onkyo 601TX.
360 hooked up via SPIDF.
It does change DD to DTS. When I play a DD track, with the 360 set to DTS, DTS light up on my AVR.
I'm not quite a HT noob.
The add-on can't turn a DD to DTS. The corresponding audio bit streams are already part of a DVD, you just switch to the one you like best. Note that for multi-channel DTS or DD you need to have an audio receiver that can decode those formats.
