Where can I find layouts for Imaginarium train table?
My son seems to be getting bored of the same layout the table came with. It's the Imaginarium train table set from Toy's 'R' Us. It's compatible with Thomas tracks too. We are trying to find more layouts, and are not having any luck. I would like to switch it up for him using the same track the table came with. Any help is greatly appreciated!
I was looking for the same thing. While I haven't found anything specific to the Imaginarium table, I did find some resources for creating different track layouts.
The surface where you layout your model locomotive layout can make a huge difference also. I know, you like those little N gauge trains so it doesn't seem like such a huge deal. You could simply put these locomotives on any old table, you say. Take a sec. Give me a chance to make my point. I believe it makes a huge difference what quality of table you set your set up on. Here are some reasons why:
A flimsy table will disappoint:
To begin, you don't want to have a surface that is unbalanced and that will lean or that can be easily knocked on its side. When you show your new layout to your less mature family members you don't want the little tykes to be able to easily bump over your trains with just an accidental lean. One unlucky moment and your locomotives could be in pieces tossed about the floor. Think about the possible damage and the amount of time you just threw away! Don't open yourself up to that. If you're knowledgeable with your hands you might fashion the table yourself.
Cool Tip: Here's a cool tip. Remember that old ping-pong table that sits forgotten in the garage? Sure you do, it's the ping pong table that became your new toy locomotive table. Ping pong tables are nice and big so they free lots of options for your design. If you have HO or smaller, you will never need any additional space than this. Even if you have a Lionel O or one of those new S gauge locomotives, you'll find that you can really do a great deal with a table this big.
If you like to go places with your trains, you must have a good hobby table:
Look to unburden your wallet a bit for a good hobby table. A quick web search will retrieve a host of sites geared to train tables.
Cool suggestion #2: Here's a room saver: Lower your table from the ceiling. If you're good with your hands and in need of extra space, the best way to save floor space is not to use it. Secure your train layout to the ceiling with a pulley device and your problem is solved.
Interlocking tables:
Domino tables are you best bet. These tables can be fastened in any configuration or layout. What these wonderful domino tables let you to do most however is to develop your track design in any way that you can imagine. Unlike other types of tables that demand you change your design to go along with their designs, these tables allow you to dictate the limits of your track work. The light weight design is ideal for model train lovers. If you want to take your model train down in the basement, you can just carry the table down to your work area. If you want to take this over to your brother's house to show his kids your track, it is easy enough to be carried. They are so easy to alter that you might actually have difficulty keeping to one circuit design.
A great model locomotive track is only as solid as the foundation it is built on.
