Ceiling Train Layout?
We are about to build a Lionel O-gauge layout on shelfing around a room. We are thinking of putting in a siding for multiple train operation. Only thing is Lionels DCC is expensive. Is there a way to shut off/ turn on power on both siding tracks and use just one transformer?
Unfortunately, with the size of layout you are discussing, the answer is a resounding NO.
As you already know, the system itself loses juice. The larger the layout the more juice it loses. To split one controller between 2 large layouts will have disastrous results. Sometimes there isn't an easy answer, and I wish there were, in this case.
I would suggest you ask around to friends and family first. Many people have older Lionel systems. You might be surprised at what they may give to you. Also, I have found two. 1 at a flea market sale and 1 at a garage sale.
